finally figured out what to do with dog email stories

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

How many times a day do you get an email with a dog story that touches your heart … but you don’t know for sure if it’s * really true *?

I get at least twenty (I’m not kidding).

I hate to pass them on because I don’t like to get forwards, myself. But sometimes they’re just too precious not to share.

Well, I just hit a jackpot idea here, and Molly just followed up on it.

She’s made a discussion forum JUST for email stories that you love about dogs … but aren’t sure “really” happened.

Why shouldn’t we share?

So go to the new discussion forum on I Remember Love right now, and post your own sketchy-history emails that you just love to share.

Molly included one that I received from Tom, about a doggy visitor that just cracked me up.

Go read it now:

www.irememberlove.com/forum/topic/show?id=2013722%3ATopic%3A14701

and then click “start a discussion” and post your own. Just copy and paste from your email into the website.

Mahalo for being part of our community!

In honor of Rusty the therapy dog - spring special

In honor of Rusty the therapy dog - spring special

Linda, one of our dog-loving bloggers on our new community site I Remember Love, recently wrote about her dog, Rusty, who just passed his evaluation to become a full-fledged therapy dog.

Besides Linda’s obvious and justifiable pride in Rusty’s accomplishments, I was struck by her description of him.

“…the most placid creature on the face of the earth; letting absolutely nothing bother him.”

They threw things at him, offered him food, and did everything they could think of to distract him. Nothing worked.

I know for a fact that even my darling Maui - the meditating champion - would not resist a treat, no matter what!

;-)

In honor of Rusty’s certification, we’ve decided to keep the DVD version of Do You Remember Love? at $9.95 for a few more days, and not put it “out to the world” yet. So this is still a private sale just for dog lovers like you who get my emails on a regular basis.

If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, go here to check it out:

Rusty’s Spring Special: DVD

And Rusty, thanks for being such a good dog. I know your new friends at nursing homes will be infinitely enriched by your loving, peaceful companionship.

I hope I have a “therapy dog” like you if I’m ever in need!

Warm Aloha,

James

they just met, and now they’re sleeping together

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

My friend Stephanie is a schoolteacher here in Maui and she’s in love.

His name is Petey.

Stephanie and Petey met a few days ago at the Maui Humane Society … and let’s just say they’re sleeping together now.

If you haven’t guessed, Petey is a lucky shelter dog to have attracted the eye of my friend Stephanie.

I’m urging Stephanie to start a blog on IRememberLove.com so she can share with the world the adventures (and mis-adventures) of adopting a dog.

Already several of you have started blogging with your own blogs on IRememberLove.com.

It’s extremely easy to use and if you ever thought about creating an online diary, this is the perfect place … and the price is right ;-)

(your own blog for $0!)

Of course you don’t need to start a blog, you can just start by posting a photo of your dog or even commenting on someone else’s photo or video.

Already, a lot of people have posted comments about my video at www.irememberlove.com/video/video/show?id=2013722:Video:15#comments

I hope you will check out IRememberLove.com today and share it with your friends.

The site is totally free and I hope you’ll visit the sponsors who make it possible.

I’d love to hear your comments about my new site. You can post them on my profile page at www.irememberlove.com/profile/JamesJacobson

I’ll keep you posted on Stephanie and Petey and hope to see you in our new online community.

Warm Aloha,

James

behind the scenes of Do You Remember Love

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I feel like it’s 1990 again, like I’m back to my former days as a television producer ;-).

You probably don’t know about my background in television, because I usually only talk about dogs in my emails … but it’s true. I used to make television!

Last year when I made Do You Remember Love? for Maui’s Valentine’s Day gift, I was calling on old muscles that haven’t been flexed in a while.

Well, it started something I wasn’t expecting and has turned into waaaaay more than just a little lark of a project.

So many of you have asked me for a DVD version of the movie since last February that it got me thinking maybe I should go back into production mode.

So I just “wrapped” on the DVD version. I wrote all about it on my blog, here:

www.doyourememberlove.com/packwisdom/watch-do-you-remember-love-on-dvd/

The DVD took six months to plan, create, edit, package, and replicate, and I love it.

The DVD can be played in - and looks great on - any television, including the new high-definition sets.

It also includes a fun “behind the scenes” movie that Molly and I made that answers a lot of the questions we get in our email inbox - like whether I mix up Molly and Maui’s names, and who the voice of Maui is in the movie.

We’re not releasing the DVD to the public yet, but I would love to get you, my loyal email readers and fellow dog lovers, to give me your thoughts on the DVD so I can tell others about it.

In order to do that, I want to make you a special offer to watch this DVD for only $9.95.

Now it’s available just for you guys.

Click to read more about it on the blog and get your copy direct from my fulfillment house before I release it to the wider public.

I hope you will because I treasure your feedback and endorsement of this DVD, which you can leave on my blog.

appreciation for you: maui is MUCH better!

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Wow - thank you for all of your good thoughts for Maui’s health and well-being in the last few days. Within a few hours after sending that email, she visibly perked up.

And that night she ate her first full meal in a week. The next morning she was hungry and waiting for another full meal … and since has been absolutely “regular” in her habits ;-) and back to bouncy.

I’ve been sending all of you my thanks and appreciation, and also to your dogs and cats and other precious creatures.

This morning I got a link from my friend Dr. Andrew Jones with HIS newsletter reader “Appreciation” special - so appreciation seems to be the buzzword of the week.

How appropriate!

Dr. Jones has put all of his products - which are invaluable to me in sifting through health options with my elderly Maui - on sale at 75% off through Monday.

Take a look here now:

who else should get an ecard?

Friday, February 8th, 2008

As always, I’m blown away by how dog lovers respond to simple acts of kindness. Like getting one of the silly ecard Valentines I put up the other day.

http://doyourememberlove.com/ecards

I’ve been hearing from all over about how wonderful it feels to get a dog-related Valentine.

Here’s how people are using these cards:

Spouses are sending a valentine to their spouse but on behalf of their dog.

Friends are sending a valentine to their friend … but on behalf of their friend’s dog!

I’ve heard that dog lovers are also sending these valentines to their dog loving

can a dog be too relaxed?

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Maui was due for a check up this week, so we went in yesterday. The vet checked her over and was happy to report that she seemed to be doing well despite her “senior” moments.

To make sure all was perfect he decided to take some blood.

Picture this: Jason, the tech, holding 8 pound white fluffy Maui from behind, wrapping his big arms around her front and holding her elbows.

Demian, our vet, taking blood from her leg.

Me, standing in front of her and stroking her ears and rubbing her chin to keep her distracted.

(When I am not there, she gets a little … cranky.)

About ten minutes of this … and Demian looks at me and says “I want you to stop meditating with Maui.”

I laughed - “yeah, right,” I said.

“Her blood pressure is so low that it’s going to take another 5 minutes to finish this vial!” he said.

It was pretty funny. Three full grown adult males needed to keep a tiny white dog calm … we thought.

Turns out she’s such a relaxed dog that she can’t pump out a little 5 ml vial of blood without waiting a loooong time.

Demian shook his head once again and said “I have to hand it to you - you’re definitely doing something right, with a senior dog like this.”

He likes my book, and even wrote a positive review on Amazon.com to let others know that as a vet he takes dog meditation seriously.

I know that meditation has been proven to lower blood pressure in humans.

I’ve always suspected that it lowers blood pressure in dogs, too - and it looks like I am right, at least in Maui’s case.

I just heard from Demian this morning that all is well with Maui - her tests all came back perfect.

I’m crediting meditation!

To your dog’s health,

Warm Aloha,

James

PS: To get “Remember Love” or “My Dog Is My Valentine” tees, journals, and book bags in time for Valentine’s Day orders need to be placed by Friday, 2/8, 11:59 p.m. EST.

I hear Maui ordered me something, but she won’t tell me what it is yet.

All kinds of Valentine's Day gifts to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of little Maui's adoption day.

Thank you for all of the Valentine’s ideas you’ve been sending. I’ve heard a lot of really inspirational ideas.

Valentine’s Day is a really special day for me and my dog, Maui. On Valentine’s Day, 1993, I found Maui and knew she was my little dog right away.

Then on Valentine’s Day, 2007, I put my movie Do You Remember Love? on the internet, and all of this dog loving fun started. I can’t believe it’s been a year.

To celebrate this one year anniversary and the fifteen year anniversary of Maui’s adoption day, I asked for your ideas.

Shirley S. in Cincinnati wrote that she wanted a mug to bring to work that no one else would have.

Valerie T. in “the middle of nowhere, Kansas” :-) wanted a tote bag.

And Jennifer in Austin wanted a journal that helped her to “remember love” after the passing of her dachshund named Duchess last November.

I thought those were great ideas. We’ve been building a CafePress.com site to design fun gifts as we come up with them. We started in early December, and there are over 100 products so far, including that cute t-shirt.

(I got one of those for Molly, who looks great in pink!)

Here’s a quick link to get you there: RememberLoveShop.com

You can save by using economy shipping option and still get your gift in time for Valentine’s Day if you place your order by 11:59 EST on Friday, February 1.

We all know that pure love is the best gift of all, but sometimes we need help in expressing it. Check out these gifts (there are many more than shown above) and see if you can find some “treats” for yourself or your loved ones.

Just ask your dog.

Warm Aloha,
James

PS: Coming soon - free Valentine’s Day ecards you can use as Virtual Valentines! I have a designer working hard right now. I’ll let you know when they’re available.

sleeping away from Maui, I need lavender too

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I’m writing this from my hotel room in Los Angeles, so I apologize for being late in the week.

(I’m in LA on business.)

I’ve been here since Wednesday (when I usually email you) and it’s been two nights away from Maui.

Maui the dog, and also Maui the island.

It’s hard for me to sleep without them!

But Molly has figured out how to soothe Maui to sleep even when I’m not there, and I thought I’d tell you about it.

The first night I was gone, Maui cried on the edge of the bed for about ten minutes before Molly could get her to lay down.

She lay down, but she kept up little cries. It about broke Molly’s heart.

(I’m glad I didn’t know about it at the time - I was having trouble getting to sleep, too, and it would have made it even harder to know that Maui was having a hard time.)

Finally Molly took out a little vial of lavender oil and put a drop on her hand.

Lavender has a very soothing scent, and Molly sometimes uses it before bed to help her fall asleep.

Apparently, it works for Maui, too.

Molly rubbed her hands together and Maui immediately put her head down on her paws, but she kept up a little whining.

So Molly took her hand and held it about 3 inches from Maui’s nose, letting her sniff the lavender. She didn’t put her hand on Maui, just let the air fill up with the scent.

Maui started snoring in about two minutes.

Molly said it was bittersweet to see my little doggie so sad and missing me so much, but she had a hard time keeping from giggling when Maui dropped off to a deep sleep from the middle of a whine.

It’s amazing what scent can do for us - think about how the smell of a pumpkin pie or a pine tree can bring you back to wintry days at Grandma’s - but imagine if you had a dog’s sniffer what it would be like!

Maui is obviously “led by her nose.”

I know Molly uses a really high quality essential oil, but I can’t remember the name of it right now. If you want to find out more about it, just drop an email and maybe she can tell you more about it.

PS: I’m working on a couple of fun things to celebrate Valentine’s Day, our one year anniversary at “Do You Remember Love.”

I can’t wait to share! Details to come!
