Great news! Biopsy results show no cancer…

July 1st, 2008

I am so happy to report that Tuesday afternoon my friend
Dr. Dressler got the results for the biopsy he performed
on his dog last week. And it is great news:

It is NOT cancer.

What a relief. I am so touched that hundreds of people
wrote to me and many also left comments on IRememberLove.com
expressing how they were praying for Bjorn and hoping to
hear that the biopsy report would come back as negative.

Those prayers were answered and I must confess to you that
I wasn’t sure what Demian would say when I told him that
so many of you were praying for his dog. (After all, he
is a man of SCIENCE.)

I am delighted he took it the way he did and believes the
prayers may even have helped bring about the positive results.

I videotaped him as soon as he got home and you have got to
see what this veterinarian says about prayer and the whole
process that he went thru with his beloved chow chow.

The oldest dog in the world?

May 28th, 2008

Reports are coming from England that the oldest dog in the world is Bella, a labrador, who was brought home more than 26 years ago–when she was already 3 years old.

That would make her 29 years old– or over 200 years old!

The Guiness Book of World’s Records is investigating the claim.

What I find really interesting–and what the media is not reporting–is that last week Bella’s owner, David Richardson who himself is 76, thought it was the end for his faithful companion.

Bella became ill and was unable to walk.

Mr. Richardson made an appointment with the vet and prepared a grave in the back yard.

He had a sleepless night and when he awoke he decided to cancel the appointment with the vet. He couldn’t go through with it.

As Richardson reports:

‘I phoned to cancel the vet because I just thought it would be better if Bella died in her sleep. She couldn’t walk, but when I went out and filled in the grave she appeared behind me and was stood there watching.”

Since then Bella has been fine and the vet says Bella’s heart is strong and she is very fit for her age, except for some arthritis in her legs.

To see a picture of Bella, Mr. Richardson and learn what the dog–who only has 2 teeth left–eats, visit the oldest dog in the world.

There are a number of new videos on IRememberLove.com–including a very sweet and touching video of a cemetary for dogs outside Paris that was built in 1899. Over 40,000 beloved animals are buried there. The music and the montage of the video are beatutiful. Here is the link to the Paris dog cemetary video.

a machine that plays fetch & what I found in the crawl space

May 14th, 2008

I hope your week is going well. Mine is busy so I will keep this short…

I posted an amazing video of a machine that a man built to play fetch with his dachshund. You got to see this ingenuity in action. Watch the video at:
http://tinyurl.com/5tnmst

It is pretty amazing.

Also, I was digging in the crawl space under the steps and I unearthed a video that I made 14 years ago.

Both Maui and I are in it–she is just a puppy and I am quite a few pounds lighter. :)

It is an instructional video called “You, Too, Can Talk with the Animals” and features Bea Lydecker, the original animal communicator to the stars.

Bea’s star animal clients included Lassie and the thoroughbred race horse Secretariat.

Making the video was a pretty amazing experience 14 years ago and certainly opened up my eyes to the possibility of really connecting and communicating with animals on a non-verbal level.

I am sure that learning animal communication helped me enhance my relationship with Maui, cultivate my dog meditation practice and it also opened me up to do the work I am doing today.

(I also suspect that the animal communication skills I learned back then when I made the video has given me the confidence and opened my heart to the animal kingdom so that I have had the great gift of swimming with wild dolphins over 50 times.)

I am going to see if I can get the video transferred–and if I can maybe even put a clip up on IRememberLove.com for you to see.

Ok, back to work for me…

I hope you take a two-minute break and watch the amazing automatic fetch machine video at:

It was sent to me by a member of our DoYouRememberLove/IRememberLove community.

I don’t want to name him, but this past year he has gone thru a number of health challenges and his positive outlook and love for dogs has always helped him get thru them.

That is why this video is especially heart-warming.

Check it out.

I think you will like it as much as I do.

finally figured out what to do with dog email stories

May 8th, 2008

How many times a day do you get an email with a dog story that touches your heart … but you don’t know for sure if it’s * really true *?

I get at least twenty (I’m not kidding).

I hate to pass them on because I don’t like to get forwards, myself. But sometimes they’re just too precious not to share.

Well, I just hit a jackpot idea here, and Molly just followed up on it.

She’s made a discussion forum JUST for email stories that you love about dogs … but aren’t sure “really” happened.

Why shouldn’t we share?

So go to the new discussion forum on I Remember Love right now, and post your own sketchy-history emails that you just love to share.

Molly included one that I received from Tom, about a doggy visitor that just cracked me up.

Go read it now:

www.irememberlove.com/forum/topic/show?id=2013722%3ATopic%3A14701

and then click “start a discussion” and post your own. Just copy and paste from your email into the website.

Mahalo for being part of our community!

Funny video today, dog cancer tomorrow

April 23rd, 2008

Some great videos are being posted on IRememberLove.com, but I wanted to call your attention to a very funny one that Dee posted.

It is from the hit TV show Britain’s Got Talent and features the most amazing dog named Gin. You have to check it out.

Here is the direct link to the video:

www.irememberlove.com/video/video/show?id=2013722%3AVideo%3A11122

When you are on IRememberLove.com, watch some of the other videos and I hope you will add a photo or video of your own dog–or one that really moves you and you think the rest of us will enjoy.

It is incredibly easy to post pics and videos on the site. Of course, adding your own stories and joining discussions is also a cinch.

I hope you will take a few minutes today and check out the site. It is a lot of fun.

Ok, on to a totally different subject…

Tomorrow I will be sending you an important email related to dog cancer.

If you have or had or know a dog that has been diagnosed with cancer, I urge you to open up the email. It is really important and I could use your help. Details will come tomorrow (Thursday).

Thanks in advance.

For now, I hope you will go watch the video of Gin at IRememberLove.com.

you have to see these videos

April 16th, 2008

I am feeling a lot better after a one-week bout with some upper respiratory bug that was going around the island.

That is why I didn’t write last week and why you didn’t see me much on IRememberLove.com. I was sick in bed.

…but Maui too good care of me. She rested along side me and kept me company.

While I was recuperating, I went thru some things and I found a GREAT video I wanted to share with you.

It is from a couple years ago when I went on a book tour to promote “How to Meditate with Your Dog.”

A reporter in San Diego asked me to show her how with her dog. He was so hyper when we started, but as the cameras rolled…the most amazing thing happened.

Go check out the video for yourself.

I posted it on IRememberLove.com. Here is the direct link: Reporter Meditates with Dog on the News!

While you are on the site, I hope you will check out some of the other videos there. I also posted a very funny compilation of TALKING DOGS. I bet you can’t watch it without breaking a smile. Check it out here:

Funny Talking Dogs

Enjoy the videos. Post a comment or two. Be sure to add some of your own pictures–and even a video–if you have one. I love seeing how quickly the community is growing at IRememberLove.com.

While you are there, please feel free to leave me a note and of course, check out our sponsors and advertisers who make it all possible.

Enjoy these videos. I am eager to hear what you think after you watch them.

people are gossiping

April 3rd, 2008

It’s a gentle day today on Maui (the island) - and Maui (the dog) is sleeping gently at my feet. I’ve just been playing around on IRememberLove.com and making new friends. And Molly started her own blog last week - have you seen it?

She put up a beautiful poem called “I’m Still Here” and wrote about her childhood dog, a spunky cairn terrier named Timmy. You can check it out here:

Molly’s Blog

I hope you go post your own pictures at http://www.IRememberLove.com

We’re all having a blast!

Meanwhile, people who got the first round of the DVD version of Do You Remember Love? have been gossiping!

www.doyourememberlove.com/packwisdom/watch-do-you-remember-love-on-dvd/

Here’s what I’ve “overheard” in my customer satisfaction survey:

“I purchased one for a part of my best of friends birthday gift…She loves it too…”

“It is an excellent source for anyone that has been touched by the unconditional love of their canine friend.”

“I don’t think words can describe the DVD - You need to need not only to watch and listen but you need to FEEL the DVD. I think every shoud see this DVD and share the wonderful feeling you get from it.”

“Yes. we lost our cairn terrier last June. This DVD just made us remember with all the love that we have how funny and lovely she was. Molly was a trooper … she was the best little girl ever. Thank you.”

This kind of feedback coupled with the gentleness of the day just opens my heart wiiiiiide. I’m going to give Maui an extra cuddle this afternoon as a special thank you for her inspiration.

In honor of Rusty the therapy dog - spring special

March 26th, 2008

In honor of Rusty the therapy dog - spring special

Linda, one of our dog-loving bloggers on our new community site I Remember Love, recently wrote about her dog, Rusty, who just passed his evaluation to become a full-fledged therapy dog.

Besides Linda’s obvious and justifiable pride in Rusty’s accomplishments, I was struck by her description of him.

“…the most placid creature on the face of the earth; letting absolutely nothing bother him.”

They threw things at him, offered him food, and did everything they could think of to distract him. Nothing worked.

I know for a fact that even my darling Maui - the meditating champion - would not resist a treat, no matter what!

;-)

In honor of Rusty’s certification, we’ve decided to keep the DVD version of Do You Remember Love? at $9.95 for a few more days, and not put it “out to the world” yet. So this is still a private sale just for dog lovers like you who get my emails on a regular basis.

If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, go here to check it out:

Rusty’s Spring Special: DVD

And Rusty, thanks for being such a good dog. I know your new friends at nursing homes will be infinitely enriched by your loving, peaceful companionship.

I hope I have a “therapy dog” like you if I’m ever in need!

Warm Aloha,

James

why Maui didn’t get a haircut for so long

March 24th, 2008

Wow!

So many of you sent emails chastising me for letting Maui go so long without a haircut that my assistant Crystal thought I should explain the “why.”

Maui (the island) is paradise … but not for groomers.

There are only three on the entire island - for 100,000 residents!

They are all fully booked, all the time.

Maui’s groomer, Allyson of Pawsitively Purrfect, is one of the sweetest, most doggy-loving people I know. She grew up rescuing injured animals - wild and domestic - and to this day remains totally obsessed with furkids.

She’s totally in love with Maui, and takes excellent care of her like clockwork, every six weeks.

You can see a photo of her here: www.irememberlove.com/photo/photo/show?id=2013722%3APhoto%3A4761

But a few months ago she had to go out of town for several weeks, and because she works ten hours a day, six days a week, many of her clients had to live without her services - there was no way for her to “make up” the appointments that she missed.

Meanwhile, the other two groomers … well, let’s just say that I would never, ever, take Maui to them.

I have had very bad experiences with both, and one cut Maui’s eyes a few years ago and actually caused the cataracts that she carries to this day.

She never even apologized!!!!!

The regular bathing and brushing that Molly and I do just isn’t what Allison can do - but waaaaay better than what either of the other two groomers do.

When Allyson said she was not going to be able to see Maui for three months, Molly and I were quite downcast. We asked if there was ANYONE else on the island that she trusted with Maui (who is her second oldest client), and she said

“I wish there were. I’ve been trying for years to get reliable help.”

If you know any stellar groomers who want a job in paradise, let us know - Allyson’s waiting list alone could be a second practice!

Allyson really is a “pet angel,” and we’re blessed to have her. Check out her photo here:

www.irememberlove.com/photo/photo/show?id=2013722%3APhoto%3A4761

You’ll see immediately why her clients adore her. She oozes dog love.

Meanwhile, Maui thanks you for your concern.

;-)

Warm Aloha,

James
